According to the report from the International Lead and Zinc Study Group (ILZSG), in the first quarter of this year, the global refined zinc market had a supply surplus of 144,000 tons, from the surplus of 201,000 tons from the same period a year ago. Among them, refined zinc production increased by 0.4% year on year to nearly 3.4 million tons, while consumption went up by 2.2% year on year to 3.25 million tons.

The report also pointed out that in 2024, the global refined zinc production is forecasted to increase by 0.6% year on year to 14.01 million tons, which is mainly driven by China’s increase of 1% output, while the demand would grow by 1.8% year on year to 13.96 million tons. Therefore, the global refined zinc supply surplus in 2024 would be approximately 56,000 tons.
