Zimbabwe's Cabinet decided to change the policy of exports of chrome ore. It was changed from banning exports of unwrought ore to controlling its export prices of all chrome-related materials. The government pointed Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) to lead the trade of chrome.

The Chrome Ores Coordination Committee consisting of representatives of smelters and members from the Chrome Small-Scale Miners Association will release the price level for miners each quarter.

In July 2021, the government banned the export of unwrought chromium ore with the reasons to develop local industries.

According to Zimbabwe's Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, the country's mineral reserves is around 10 billion tons, accounting for 12% of the world's reserves, second only to South Africa.
