Brazilian pig iron exports increase in May

The Brazilian exports of pig iron have reached 325,100 mt in May, against 214,600 mt in April, according to customs. The destinations in May were the US (273,400 mt at $428/mt), the Netherlands (41,900 mt at $458/mt), Argentina (6,400 mt at $420/mt) and Asia (3,400 mt at $528/mt), all FOB conditions. The shipments were from independent producers in the southeastern states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo (282,700 mt at $434/mt), and from the central-western state of Mato Grosso do Sul, (42,400 mt at $426/mt). Such prices were probably negotiated in March, with indications of the BPI grade in the $400-450/mt grade and the foundry grade product above $500/mt, FOB conditions.
