On August 13, Eastplats announced its chromium ore production for the second quarter of 2024, with a production of 72,300 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 43% (Q2 2023: 127,100 tons) and a month on month decrease of 9.5% (Q1 2024: 79,900 tons). The total output of chromium ore in the first half of 2024 was 152,200 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 44% (2023 first half: 274,200 tons). The Retreatment project, as the main project producing chromium ore, includes a combination of hydraulic and mechanical re mining methods, using magnetic separation to produce chromium concentrate. Compared with traditional gravity technology, it has achieved better production results. The reprocessing project is one of the few large-scale magnetic separation applications in South Africa.
